One of the remakes for Live a Live is set to release exclusively on Nintendo Switch in July, while a remake of Dragon Quest III is currently being developed D2R Items. There are a number of other games which could benefit from this design and style, and it’ll be interesting to discover exactly what Square Enix does with HD-2D next. While the company has certainly invested in this design style, Asano went on to explain that there’s no any current “definitive book,” and it will continue to evolve from game to game.
“We haven’t put together anything similar to that. The way that it’s expressed varies for each title, meaning that the HD-2D-style will differ slightly from time to time. When you play Live A Live for example the mood in the prehistoric section is going to differ from the sci-fi scene.
Our expression options have increased thanks to the new ideas we’ve devised. “While the cost may be prohibitive for some developers, HD-2D has definitely become a key selling point for a lot of gamers. It is our hope that we will continue to see Square Enix find new ways to extend the style, for a lot more games to be released!
