The final raid of WoTLK Gold Shadowlands is now live alongside the game’s Eternity’s End update. Although players will not be able to fight the Jailer and stop his plan to alter the reality in the near future, they were able to face Alliance-king and the Jailer’s pawn Anduin.
The battle against Anduin revealed a previously unseen in-game cinematic, and it’s safe to say that the public is more than a little divided regarding what was revealed, particularly on the appearance of a key person from World of Warcraft lore. Below are spoilers.
The film shows that the characters of Azeroth fighting Anduin. Just as the corrupted leader of the Alliance looks set to be consumed completely by the Jailer’s Domination magic, the spirits of both his father Varian and his friend-from-across-the-aisle Varok Saurfang place their hands upon him. Informing Anduin his father and Varok that they are both part of the Shalamyne’s blade’s history along with their personal histories are with him, Anduin can escape the influence of the Jailer.
Then, the soul of Arthas appears, as a blue orb. It’s been long speculated that Arthas may have a role that he could play within Shadowlands. He was featured in the early Afterlives animated short prior to the expansion’s release and his mentor, Uther has played a significant role in the story of Shadowlands. It was suggested throughout Shadowlands in that the Jailer is ultimately responsible for the corruption of Arthas However, it remains to be seen if this character would be revealed in any meaningful way.
